New Year, Same Me for 2017

So far this year I’ve been talking about resolutions for 2017. But it has me thinking, some goals which many of us to make for the months ahead can be quite critical of ourselves. Bringing focus on unlikely challenges for a ‘healthier and happier you’ can make us dwell on the negatives. So I’ve decided to dedicate this post to all the positives – New Year, Same Me. Maybe we don’t need to change one bit. I think it’s important for us all to reflect and celebrate everything which we love about ourselves, what makes us different and unique. Instead of trying to break habits in 2017, we create new ones. Rather than dwelling on shortcomings, we should count our blessings and practice gratitude. I hope by writing this, you too will realise how truly amazing and lucky you are!

New Year, Same Me

Drop all efforts to change yourself. Put your whole energy into knowing yourself, and out of that knowing comes growth. You have to be only yourself. You have to be only that which you already are

New Year, Same Me

Last year I hit an all time low, I had no work, broke up with my boyfriend and had to move back in with my parents. There was a big moody cloud which didn’t seem to move for sometime – I was in a dark place. I realised soon that it was important for me to make changes. Like I said before, rather than dwelling on shortcomings, we should count our blessings and focus on gratitude – New Year, Same Me. By practicing the following I have truly turned things around for myself these past few months – something which I’m honestly proud for doing.

  • Gratitude Be thankful every day for what you have, starting with the things you may take for granted: a steaming cup of tea that warms your hands, a sunny day, your dog curled up at your feet. Add to your list each day. If you struggle with this, I recommend just writing one thing which you’re grateful for at the end of each day, soon your list will grow and eventually you will catch yourself giving thanks throughout the day for all the blessings which we have.

  • Give yourself a break We all lead such exhausting lives, constantly connected to our smart phones and computers and with unrealistic expectations of what we “should” be accomplishing. So make the effort to show yourself some love. Indulge in a good book (I personally recommend Girlboss). Fill a tub with aromatic bath salts, light a scented candle and surrender to utter relaxation. And most importantly, enjoy!

  • Think positive Here’s some of my favourite quotes about positivity from well-known people who have faced failure and success, who despite challenges stayed positive. Use their words to get you going on your own good vibes:“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.” — Helen Keller”Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.” — Willie Nelson“In order to carry a positive action we must develop here a positive vision.” — Dalai Lama

“Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.” — Zig Ziglar

“Pessimism leads to weakness, optimism to power.” — William James

“You can’t make positive choices for the rest of your life without an environment that makes those choices easy, natural, and enjoyable.” — Deepak Chopra

“Positive thinking is more than just a tagline. It changes the way we behave. And I firmly believe that when I am positive, it not only makes me better, but it also makes those around me better.” — Harvey Mackay

  • Keep things in perspective No matter where you are in life, there are those who suffer more. Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive. If you can find a way to be thankful for your troubles, they can become your blessings. I recommend a beautiful app called Affirmations! I downloaded it last year and I read a quote every morning before I start my day. I find this really helps with a positive start to each and everyday.

Happy New Year to you all, my fabulous friends! I know I am grateful for all the support you have shown me over the years. Here’s to a beautiful year ahead.
