Inspiration for your Race Day Style

Off to the races? Worry not, I’m here to lead you in the right direction to help you look hot to trot (excuse the pun!) and give you inspiration for your race day style. Dressing for the races is just like a wedding, think formal occasion wear. Longer hems create a sophisticated look and there are many chic on-the-knee and midi dress options this season. An open-toed shoe is also perfect, and the higher the shoe, the better (that’s my motto!). Its more flattering to wear a heel but if you are planning to head onto the grass, a wedge would be a sensible choice.

Race Day Style

Hats, headwear and fascinators are in my eyes the most important element of your race day ensemble. There are many choices, from fascinators to trilbies and even top-hats. Sculptural forms are taking over from the flimsy feather styles and should you be at Royal Ascot, there are guidelines to each of the different enclosures. As for fabrication, straw was the convention for spring racing but also silk, cotton, feathers, leather and even 3D plastic are seen! On Ladies Day, anything goes!! And the bigger, the better.

To ease up the stress of finding the perfect race day dress, John Lewis has gathered a selection of feel-good frocks and headwear that’ll make you feel like a true winner….
